DAY 354: BLOOM
from Plant Your Poetry: 365 Poems and Prompts to Grow Your Writing Habit
When a flower is late to bloom,do we blame the flower?
Or do we look at its environment
and ask what it needs?
What do you need little flower?
Happy World Poetry Day!
It is a time of celebrations, and a time that I would love to share with this beautiful community of writers and dreamers. Not only is today World Poetry Day, but we are fast approaching April, which is National Poetry Month in Canada and one year since I published my debut book, Plant Your Poetry: 365 Poems and Prompts to Grow Your Writing Habit.
I could not have anticipated the incredible journey the book has been on, especially considering it was self-published and my first time ever putting a book together. It has connected me to so many wonderful people throughout the world, not only has the book become a bestseller but reached the top #2 of Canada’s most gifted poetry writing guides and is now stocked in major retailers around the world. It has sold way more copies in multiple countries than I could have have imagined but the MOST amazing thing has been writing live every day with a growing community of writers, sharing the poems in the book, reading everyone else’s poems in response to the prompts and sharing their words that I’ve loved each week. Seeing the development and growth that the community has gone through organically simply by writing and staying curious every day has been astounding.
In fact, writing together and sharing what we love about each others poetry has been so useful to our writing practice, I want to open up this way of working together to as many people as possible to benefit from. That’s why I’m offering all subscribers to Plant Your Poetry an upgrade to paid for the month of April plus the chance to win a signed copy of my book Plant Your Poetry: 365 Poems and Prompts to Grow Your Writing Habit.
